Origin: France The 2017 vintage was shaped by three contrasting phases that created a distinctive tension in its character. The year began mildly in the vineyard, but this calm was disrupted in march by twelve days of frost, which significantly reduced yield potential. The remainder of spring and early summer were hot and dry, accelerating ripening and encouraging greater concentration in the surviving grapes. Conditions shifted again at the end of august when rainfall increased, allowing botrytis and sour rot to develop and placing the harvest at risk of degradation. As in 2005 and 2010, careful crop management and meticulous sorting proved crucial to preserving the highest-quality fruit. The chardonnays harvested were the ripest since 2000, while healthy pinot noirs displayed a fine balance between maturity and freshness.
