Spaghetti Recipe

This spaghetti recipe gives an Asian twist to the classic spaghetti. It’s slightly sweeter and creamier than the traditional spaghetti. Try out this spaghetti recipe if you’re looking to make something different. It has ingredients you don’t usually find in conventional spaghetti, for instance, oyster sauce and Shaoxing wine.

Ingredients

  • 15ml of olive oil
  • 675g of ground beef
  • 800g of crushed tomato
  • 1 yellow onion, minced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 stems of celery, diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 4 tbsp of tomato paste
  • 30ml of Shaoxing wine
  • 30ml of oyster sauce
  • 30ml of soy sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • A pinch of ground black pepper

To Serve With

  • Cooked pasta of your choice (we recommend tagliatelle or pappardelle)
  • Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

  • 1 large saucepot and cover
  • 1 spatula

Spaghetti Recipe

Directions

  • Pour the olive oil into the saucepot, heat it over medium heat, and add the ground beef.
  • Break the ground beef into smaller pieces and let it cook until the surface browns.
  • Next, add the crushed tomatoes, and remember to scrape the brown bits at the bottom of the pot with the spatula.
  • Then, add the onion, carrots, celery, garlic, tomato paste, Shaoxing wine, oyster sauce, soy sauce, bay leaves, salt, and ground black pepper.
  • Cover the saucepot and leave a small gap. Let it simmer for around 20 minutes and stir occasionally.
  • Remove the bay leaves and stir well.
  • Pour the sauce over the pasta of your choice and top it with parmesan cheese and fresh parsley.

Leftover Spaghetti

If you find yourself with leftovers, store the sauce and pasta separately. Remember to keep the sauce in an airtight container and refrigerate it. It can be stored for 3 to 4 days. With leftover sauce, you can make a range of other dishes! For instance, you can use the sauce for pizza, dip for sourdough bread, or even stuffed red peppers.
