You can never go wrong with tacos—they’re easy to make, beginner-friendly, but pack a punch of flavour in each bite. An incredibly popular dish in Mexican cuisine, it has been popularised over the years and grown to be many’s favourite meal. While you can easily make them with premade versions from local grocery stores, nothing beats this homemade taco recipe.

Ingredients

  • 450g of lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp of chilli powder
  • 1 tsp of ground cumin
  • ¾ tsp of salt
  • ½ tsp of dried oregano
  • ½ tsp of garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp of black pepper
  • 125ml of tomato sauce
  • 65ml of water
  • 12 taco shells

Directions

  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, add beef, chilli powder, cumin, salt, oregano, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir to mix until well incorporated and cook for 8 minutes.
  • Turn the heat down to medium and add tomato sauce and water. Stir to mix.
  • Cook for 7 minutes until the liquid reduces and remove the skillet from the heat.
  • Prepare the taco shells according to their package instructions.
  • Fill each taco shell with 2 tablespoons of taco meat and serve!

Toppings

While it’s great on its own, it is recommended to add toppings to this taco recipe to complete the dish. Popular ingredients include shredded cheese of your choice, chopped tomatoes, diced red onions, sour cream, and guacamole.
