Sustainable Restaurant Certification Scheme

To encourage our vendors to be more sustainable, we launched our Sustainable Restaurant Certification scheme in October 2021. Restaurants that are certified go through a rigorous, comprehensive assessment. As of March 2023, 78 brands have been assessed, with 51 brands active on foodpanda’s platform awarded a Sustainable Restaurant Certificate.

Certified restaurants are awarded a Sustainable Restaurant Certification logo displayed on their page in the foodpanda app with 4 achievement levels: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. This makes it easier for our customers to choose to eat greener and healthier!

Restaurants are assessed according to the following criteria which is supported by WWF Hong Kong:

Ingredients

Does the restaurant supply vegetarian and vegan dishes?

Are local, organic, and sustainable ingredients sourced?

Packaging

Does the restaurant use packaging and cutlery that meets Delivery Hero’s Sustainable Packaging Standard?

Are non-petrochemical plastic bags used for food delivery?

Does the restaurant support any reusable packaging initiatives?

Waste Reduction

Does the restaurant use reusable tableware for dine-in customers?

Has the restaurant engaged in food waste reduction activities, including partnerships or composting?

Carbon Reduction

Does the restaurant engage in carbon auditing or offsetting activities?

Are renewable energy certificates from local power suppliers bought?

Community

Is the restaurant involved in local community outreach programs (e.g., donations, ex-felon employment)?

Awareness

Has the restaurant pledged and set waste reduction targets?

Is there sustainability training for staff?
